Edinburgh Ball Stars Basketball League U14 — Parent Signup Notes (Read Before Registering)

Please read and acknowledge the following before signing your child up for the Edinburgh Ball Stars Basketball League at Currie Community Centre. Registration indicates that you agree to all points below.

Eligibility:
If you have been receiving our text messages about the league, your child is eligible and has been deemed ready by our coaching team and supported by us on the day.

Player Appearance and Equipment Mandatory:
Every child MUST bring a filled water bottle.
Clothing: Players MUST arrive wearing a plain black or white T shirt and black shorts. There are no designated changing areas at the venue.
Footwear: Clean indoor court shoes are recommended.
Team strips: Will be provided upon arrival at the venue; players should still arrive in their own black/white T shirt and black shorts due to no changing facilities.

Supervision and Safeguarding Parent/guardian presence:
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times when they are not on the court. Drop-off only is not permitted.

Spectating and Fan Zone:
All parents, spectators, and teams who are off court will watch the games on the big screen in the dedicated Fan Zone located in the theatre room of the building. Please follow staff guidance to and from the Fan Zone and keep walkways clear for teams entering/exiting the court.

League Overview:
Venue: Currie Community Centre, Edinburgh.
Launch: Late September 2025.
Age range: 11–14yrs
Aims: Positive, developmental basketball without high costs or elite-competition pressure.

Schedule: (New: Saturdays, twice monthly; games run between 2:30PM and 5.30PM) Sessions run on Saturdays, twice monthly.
Time slots: The league will run 3 games per event day: Game 1: 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM Game 2: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM Game 3: 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM We will let you know once the spots are filled as to what hour your child’s game will be. The exact hour will be communicated after fixtures are confirmed.

Fees:
Player fee: £5 per event, (this is for 1 hour of basketball game time throughout the duration of the event) payable online via ClassForKids once fixtures are published.

Things to be aware of:
Coaches and referees provided by Flyers, trained locally and working toward Saltire Volunteering Awards.
Regular social media coverage including match reports, group, team, and game action photos available on the High Flyers Facebook page.

U14 Ball Stars Format: (All Must Play)
• Game length: 8-minute running clock quarters (last minute stop clock)
• Turnovers: Double dribbles, fouls, and travels all result in a turnover
• Shooting fouls: Shoot 1 free throw worth 2 points
• All Must Play: Every player must have played at least 8 minutes by the start of the 4th quarter
• Defence: No zone defence
• Scoring: 2-point and 3-point shots only
• Substitutions: Must approach the table and enter at a dead ball
• Out-of-bounds/fouls: Ball goes to the referee
• Timeouts: 1 timeout per half (1 minute)
• Repeated fouls: Repeated fouls in quick succession will result in a brief number of minutes removed from play as a coach-led refocusing timeout
• Unsportsmanlike conduct: Ejection for the offending player; coach must manage the player thereafter
• Coach conduct: Negative or abusive behaviour from coaches will result in a warning, followed by removal if repeated

On-the-Day Checklist:
• Arrive on time for your child’s scheduled hour(s).
• Child is already wearing: Black or white T shirt Black shorts
• Clean indoor court shoes
• Bring a filled water bottle.
• Parent/guardian/designated person remains on-site and supervises the child when off-court. Use the Fan Zone in the theatre room to watch games on the big screen when your child’s team is not on court.

Parent Acknowledgement:
By registering, I confirm and agree that:
• My child has received an eligibility text from the organisers or our club and is ready to participate. My child may be scheduled for one or more of the available games on their event day, depending on capacity and fixtures.
• I will ensure my child arrives wearing a black/white T shirt and black shorts and brings a water bottle.
• I understand there are no changing facilities at the venue.
• A dedicated person will remain on site and supervise my child whenever they are not on the court. I will use the dedicated Fan Zone (theatre room) to watch games on the big screen when spectating or when our team is off court.
• I agree to pay £5 per event for 1 hour of basketball game time via ClassForKids once fixtures are released.
• I acknowledge the league may share social media content including team / game action photos and match reports as part of its programme.
